The $30 Million Saturday Lotto Megadraw went off with a bang in December 2018 with 17 Division 1 winners! The highly-anticipated draw always falls on the last Saturday of the year. The draw landed each winner with over $1.7 million in prize money from the Division 1 pool. In addition, the prizes in Divisions 2-6 totalled over $38.6 million in winnings shared by thousands of lotto players. What a fantastic start to 2019!
While details of the winners are still trickling in. We know that the Division 1-winning Megadraw tickets were purchased all across Australia. That’s including eight in Victoria, two in Queensland, one in New South Wales, one in Australian Capital Territory, four in Western Australia and one online.
One of the Queensland Megadraw winners is a couple in their 60s from the Sunshine Coast. They were so shocked to answer the phone call from lottery officials that they screamed, “Oh, f*cking hell!”
“I can’t believe it!” said the winning wife. “My mind is boggling!” The couple said they had been dreaming about retirement, but it had always been out of reach – until now. They planned to help their children and family before finally taking the opportunity to make their retirement plans a reality. “But first, we’re just going to sit down and have a cup of tea to take it all in.” The winning couple purchased their 12-game QuickPick from a local newsagency.
The other Megadraw-winning Queensland ticket belonged to brothers from the Brisbane suburb of Boondall. They are “going to have a 2019 [they] won’t forget!” The brothers told lottery officials they had been playing the same numbers on their 12-game Standard ticket for years. And it had finally paid off!
When asked what they planned to do with the prize money, they said they would be taking a moment to think about it. But they would definitely be “celebrating the win today!”
Further south in Victoria, a syndicate of 15 workmates from Ocean Grove near Geelong purchased their winning Megadraw ticket from a local newsagency and shared the $1.7 million prize. Each member took home $117,647.05. A second Victorian syndicate of 99 members also shared in a Division 1 prize. The syndicate’s System 20 QuickPick ticket also won Division 3 84 times and Division 4 1365 times! That means taking the total winnings to $1,900,896.14 or $19,200.97 per member.
Syndicates are a great way to play lotto! You share the cost of larger tickets with other players. Therefore, giving you more chances to win for less!
Other Victorian Megadraw winners included a couple from south-east Melbourne. They plan to take care of their mortgage and children before fulfilling their dreams of endless travel.
Meanwhile, a Cranbourne North resident was left speechless when they got the life-changing news they had a Division 1-wining ticket in Saturday’s draw. “I checked my ticket and I said, ‘No, I can’t believe it. Six numbers straight!” This winner hoped to buy a new home and share the prize money with family. A woman in her 20s, from Glen Iris, was yet another Melbourne winner. She will be giving some money to her parents. All before buying a new car and heading on a European adventure, of course.
Finally, in a suburb of Tuggeranong, Canberra, a mother with a big family was blown away at the news she had won $1.7 million.
She said the win would be a “game-changer” for her family. They’ve been stressed with their mortgage and bills. So much so that she hadn’t even considered anything beyond that. “This is very unexpected and will certainly change our plans for the year.” The woman’s ticket was purchased from a local newsagency.
Lottery officials are still searching for Megadraw winners whose Division 1 tickets were purchased in Rowville in Melbourne, and Elmore, a small town near Bendigo in Victoria.
The winning numbers in Saturday Lotto Megadraw 3907 on the 29th of December were 9, 33, 39, 30, 2, and 17, plus supplementary numbers 22 and 41.
