It’s the dream of every lotto player – a phone call from lottery officials following a big jackpot. For one lucky Oz Lotteries customer, the dream came true on Monday morning while she was on her way to work.
“As soon as I heard it was from Oz Lotteries, my breath cut short,” said the winning woman. “I was hoping, yet I didn’t want to hope to avoid disappointment.” She needn’t have worried – the Oz Lotteries customer support team was calling to inform her that she’d won over $664,000!
“Honestly, I still cannot believe it,” said the woman from Melbourne’s bayside suburbs. “Even now, when I’m speaking to you!”
The call was even more of a shock because she hadn’t checked her usual results email from Oz Lotteries on the day after the draw.
She explained how she had been playing online for a few years “because it was much more convenient” to enter every Saturday Lotto draw, or TattsLotto as it is known in Victoria. After a “few small wins” in Divisions 6 and 7, she finally hit the jackpot with her regular 4-game Quickpick. “My husband used to laugh at me, saying ‘How can you possibly win anything with just a few games?’ she said. “Well, he won’t be laughing at me anymore!”
Her husband was the first person she called after receiving news of her amazing win, and he “couldn’t believe it”. She said she had checked her Oz Lotteries account 20 times to see the numbers and still couldn’t believe it herself. “It’s just amazing!”
When asked how she would put the money to use, she said that the bulk of the win would go towards paying off the mortgage, adding that “Melbourne’s gotten pretty expensive to live in.” But more importantly, the family were planning a “wonderful” Christmas get together and special presents for their children: “The kids will finally get the new computers they’ve been asking for.”
The Oz Lotteries winner, who works as a teacher, said she had no plans to leave her well-liked job.
