Draw 274 of the Mater Home Lottery was won by a young family, who never won anything in their lives. Suddenly Nathan and Kirsty from St George, NSW had to come to terms that they won a $1.8 million Bribie Island prize home.

As a supporter of the Mater Foundation, Nathan decided to purchase extra tickets because his family loved the new prize home in particular.

Nathan is a busy painter and is always very busy working 6 days a week. One day after work he found out that he had a number of missed calls from the Mater Foundation. He was quite tired, and decided to call back later. But when he got home, his wife told him that there was news that a St George local had won the Mater Home Lottery. So Nathan and his wife checked the tickets as soon as possible.

“We opened the email to check the tickets, and kept reading over and over them, going—yes that’s the first ticket, and that’s the last one – the winning ticket is in the middle… I cried,” said Kirsty.

After settling their prize and claiming the keys, the ecstatic family of five headed to their new home.

“It still doesn’t feel real. It feels like we are in a really fancy B&B where there is no check out time.”

The kids were particularly happy to be in their new home…

“We all went through the virtual tour online and picked our rooms before we arrived.  We share rooms at home, so it’s cool we all get our own room here. We all wanted the room with the walk-in robe – especially my sister! We’ve always wanted a pool too so we will be spending lots of time in this one.”

Mater Prize Home Draw 275 Winners

When the Mater Foundation called to confirm with Brian, he could barely believe it. Even more fortunate, the day he won was his son’s birthday.

“This doesn’t happen to me! The boys are so excited by the pool and having a TV in their rooms!”

Both winners were great supporters of the Mater Foundation and their commitment to helping Mater Foundation and Research is crucial in ensuring the future of health research and care.

“It was never about winning a house, winning prizes or anything like that. It was more the fact that I was giving to Mater Foundation.”
