Powerball Winner of $35 Million Is Speechless

The lucky Powerball winner who scooped the 4 August 2016 massive $35,000,000 Powerball jackpot has come forward to claim her prize! A woman in her forties from Woden in south Canberra was “speechless” to realise she was the sole winner when she checked her ticket the next day.

“Wow! This is surreal!”

Unaware that the entire country was eagerly waiting for news of the Powerball winner, she took her 50-game Quickpick ticket to a local newsagency the day after the draw to have it checked.

The owner, who says he has been “flat out” checking Powerball tickets, held his breath wondering if this was it – and it was! He said he was “just as excited” as the winning woman when the results came up. “I’m retiring… so I feel like I’m going out with a bang!” he said.

The shocked woman said that she never expected to walk out of the newsagency a brand new multi-millionaire.

“I’ve never won anything before! I still can’t believe this is happening.”

She has her brother to thank for the winning ticket, after he encouraged her to enter the $35,000,000 Powerball jackpot. She laughed, explaining that he was the family’s “religiously” regular lotto player, but that she planned to give him some money as “a big thank you.”

“I’ll absolutely be sharing with family. I’ll pay off my mortgage but I can also pay off my mum’s mortgage and all the rest!”

When asked what she would do with her life and her amazing windfall, the Powerball winner said that she would finally be able to take some time to herself and travel throughout Europe. And as for work?

“I might tell [them] I’m not coming in for a year! They can cope without me!”
